"Transforming Japanese Business: Rising to the Digital Challenge"

“Transforming Japanese Business: Rising to the Digital Challenge”

Follow up – Conference on Transformation of Global and Japanese Business in Digital Age, in Kyoto (Japan)!

JapaneseBusiness DigitalAge Kyoto GBMC Huysveld

Organizers: William W. Baber (Kyoto University, Japan) & Anshuman Khare (Athabasca University, Canada)

Conference Adviser: Hiroki Ishikura (Osaka Gakuin University, Japan)

 Dates: February 28-29, 2020 (completed)

Business today is facing unprecedented change especially due to the adoption of new, digital technologies, with a noticeable transformation of manufacturing and services. The changes have been brought by advanced robotics, the emergence of artificial intelligence, and digital networks that are growing in size and capability as the number of connected devices explodes.

In addition, there are advanced manufacturing and collaborative connected platforms, including machine-to-machine communications. Adoption of digital technology has caused process disruptions in both the manufacturing and services sectors and led to new business models and new products. This Conference explores how the business transformation taking place in Japan is influenced by the digital revolution and how it impacts the Japanese traditions and culture.

International scholars, policy makers and practitioners from Denmark, Finland, Greece, UK, USA and Canada joined a strong group of speakers from Japan in Kyoto end of February 2020.

This Conference was planned around the release of the edited book “Transforming Japanese Business: Rising to the Digital Challenge” published by Springer Asia in January 2020.

“James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo won the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their groundbreaking work in cancer immunotherapy. Cancerous tumors are notoriously skilled at dodging our immune systems. That’s because our immune systems typically fight off foreign invaders, such as bacteria and viruses, and mostly ignore the cells created within our bodies — which include cancer cells.”  (Source: PBS)

Another Nobel Prize for 京大 – Kyoto University (Japan)!!

(Source: AFP)

Panasonic is moving its EU headquarters to Amsterdam ahead of Brexit

“We cannot wait”: Panasonic is moving its EU headquarters to Amsterdam ahead of Brexit” tells us Panasonic Europe’s CEO Laurent Abadie. We have been studying this for almost one year, and evaluating everything, and then we decided a few months ago to move forward. He added that the company had examined potential tax issues, as well as its ability to move goods and capital, before deciding that it had to move.

Abadie added that, for many Japanese companies, the UK has long served as an entry door to the European market. “After Brexit, the UK cannot be the entry door to Europe any more, that’s a fact.”   (Quarz)
